If you are not aware as of yet, Conan is leaving late night and is now moving up to the big leagues known as the Tonight Show. Jay Leno announced on the Tonight show in 2008 that he was leaving his post and publicly named Conan O’Brien to be his successor in 2009. It was quite a surprise to many that the news came so soon but it couldn’t be any better time as it lets us anticipate on what is on store for the future of night time talk shows.
February 21st, 2009 is the end of an era for late night and a dawn of a new beginning for Conan O’Brien as he leaves New York and heads off to Los Angeles to host the Tonight Show which will premiere June 1st, 2009. There are notions from the Tonight Show purists that Conan O’Brien’s comedic antics would not fly at the 11:30pm crowd but I beg to differ mightily. Conan’s a comedic genius because he’s always been able to take risks with his comedy and it has paid off handsomly if you’re up to date on the latest in news and gossip. Conan’s brand of comedy is unconventional but this is what make’s him unique to his character. His outlandish random behaviour makes it cool to be different from the rest and because of this he will now be able to thrive to a much larger audience and has a great chance of being more popular than ever.
All I need to say is, 16 years of comedic gold is what I would describe Conan’s run on his show Late night with Conan O’Brien and hope he stays on at the Tonight Show for the next 16 years if not longer.
I’ll leave you now with a clip of Conan’s farewell tribute. Enjoy as much as I do.
